The man stands out in the center of the picture and the woman stands out because she is getting out of the chair. The two women in the doorway look scared.
We had a similar time frame in mind as well as mood; I, also, felt that the characters in the image were apprehensive/scared of the news to follow. Perhaps it was the facial expressions or the body placement or even a combination of those along with personal experiences. Interesting to read everyone's take.
